PhilHealth GAMOT + YAKAP Guide (La Union): How to Claim Free Medicines — and How Shield Drugstore Can Help

If you’re wondering how PhilHealth GAMOT works, curious about YAKAP clinics, or trying to understand the actual process of claiming outpatient medicines—this guide will walk you through it clearly.

We wrote this for patients and caregivers in La Union (and the whole Philippines) who want a smoother, less confusing experience when claiming medicines through PhilHealth.

What is PhilHealth YAKAP?

PhilHealth YAKAP is a program designed to strengthen primary care—meaning consultations, assessment, and ongoing outpatient support—so common health conditions can be managed early and consistently. PhilHealth explains that once you already have a PhilHealth Identification Number (PIN), you can register with a chosen YAKAP clinic.

How to register to YAKAP

To register for PhilHealth YAKAP, you first need your PhilHealth Identification Number (PIN), then choose any of PhilHealth’s listed registration channels: you can select your preferred YAKAP/Primary Care Clinic using the eGovPH app on your phone or through the PhilHealth Member Portal on a browser; if you prefer assisted registration, you can also register through a PhilHealth office or directly with a YAKAP clinic that can help you complete the selection process for you.

What is PhilHealth GAMOT?

PhilHealth GAMOT (Guaranteed and Accessible Medications for Outpatient Treatment) is PhilHealth’s outpatient drug benefit package that covers select medications used in outpatient management and serves as the pharmaceutical service delivery arm of PhilHealth’s outpatient benefits. Through this program, PhilHealth members can claim eligible outpatient medicines from accredited GAMOT providers—such as Shield Drugstore in La Union—based on a valid prescription issued through a YAKAP clinic.

Who can use PhilHealth GAMOT?

PhilHealth’s GAMOT policy states that all Filipinos (by virtue of the UHC Act) and member foreign nationals with qualifying contributions, plus their qualified dependents, are eligible to avail.

How much is the GAMOT benefit?

PhilHealth’s nationwide GAMOT policy sets an annual benefit limit of ₱20,000 (annual benefit limit/ABL). Beneficiaries generally don’t pay out-of-pocket until the limit is consumed, and the benefit resets every January 1 (unused balance doesn’t carry over).
